Water bills now payable at Nakumatt outlets

NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 28 – More than 250,000 Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company customers can now conveniently settle their utility bills at all Nakumatt Holdings outlets countrywide.

This follows a working partnership between Nakumatt Holdings and Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) to provide convenient payments points.

In a move aimed at expanding NCWSC\’s revenue collection points through a convenient outreach programme to its customers, Nakumatt Holdings supermarkets and hypermarkets across the country will now act as a real time bill settlement points for water and sewerage bills.

The utility bill solution across Nakumatt branches is powered by a new Sh30 million payment gateway switch recently integrated on the firm’s IT infrastructure and will provide NCWSC with a forecasted 30 percent gain on its revenue collections.

Speaking during the launch of the new partnership, Nakumatt Holdings Managing Director Atul Shah confirmed that customers can now pay for their water, mobile phones and related bills at the tills as they pay for their shopping in the regular and 24 hour branches.

During the launch graced by NCWSC Chairman Peter Kuguru and Managing Director Eng. Philip Gichuki, the Nakumatt team leader noted that, with growing economic growth and continued exposure to international standards, Kenyans service level expectations have also risen to new heights.

In the emerging fast paced Kenyan lifestyle trends, Mr Shah noted that customers now want to conduct all their lifestyle errands such as banking, shopping, paying bills, entertainment and even Medicare all in one place.

"Nakumatt\’s partnership with Nairobi Water Company will help optimise our new robust and dynamic IT infrastructure that makes it possible for services such as utility bill payments, mobile operators\’ airtime vouchers purchases and virtual value added services such as cash withdrawals to be conducted at any Nakumatt till," Mr Shah explained.

"This system integration and partnership with Nairobi Water Company also confirms Nakumatt\’s continued commitment to engage in mutually beneficial partnerships with other local enterprises to meet growing customer expectations."

On his part, the NCWSC Chairman expressed the firm\’s commitment to continue raising its customer service capacity across the city.

By partnering with Nakumatt, Mr Kuguru explained that Nairobi Water Company stands to significantly raise its revenue collection capacity by providing a convenient avenue to settle water and related utility bills.

"In the 21st century, businesses and particularly service providers must strive to meet their clients\’ expectations and Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company is no exception," Mr Kuguru said.

"We are alive to the fact that thousands of our customers lead very busy lives and sometimes find it inconvenient to pay their bills through traditional channels thus the need to partner with Nakumatt where they can now even pay for their bills at any of the 24 hour branches."
