NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 3 – A post mortem to establish the cause of the death of real estate magnate Gerishon Kirima will be conducted on Tuesday, the family has said.
Spokesman Maina Wanjigi said on Monday that the autopsy would be done by Chief Government Pathologist Dr Moses Njue.
"We have asked that the family also appoints two doctors to represent them so that everyone is comfortable that all is well," Mr Wanjigi said.
The body of the late Kirima arrived in Nairobi Monday afternoon, five days after he died in South Africa.
The body arrived near the Presidents pavilion at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport shortly after 4 pm and was taken to Lee Funeral Home for preservation.
The Late Kirima\’s third wife Teresia Wairimu, daughters, sons as well as relatives and friends were at the airport to receive the body.
Burial arrangements are ongoing and a burial date is yet to be set.
Mr Kirima, a former legislator and Assistant Minister died last week at a South African hospital where he had been undergoing treatment.
At the time, some family members of the late Kirima demanded that a post-mortem be carried out saying they were excluded during the period he was sick.
Mr Peter Kuria Kirima, a brother to the deceased accused family members of the first wife of excluding other members during the period Mr Kirima was in hospital and did not even inform them when he died.
He claimed that they learnt of his death from the media.
"We must be told what killed him because we were never informed what he was suffering from apart from that he was having a mental illness," Mr Kuria stated.
"We just saw him on television being taken to Europe but we have never received any information on how he was faring on until recently when we heard that he was transferred to South Africa because of the snow storms in Europe," he had explained.
The tycoon\’s family members are engaged in a protracted legal battle over the control of his businesses worth hundreds of millions of shillings.
