30 drug addicts get help in Mombasa

MOMBASA, Kenya, Dec 31 – Over 30 drug addicts from Mombasa County have been taken to the Coast General Hospital by a political activist to start undergoing drug treatment.

This comes after three addicts died early this week due to lack drugs they have been used following a crack-down on drug trafficking.

One of the addicts Abeid Said Abeid, 30, said he was a Madrasa teacher before he started taking illicit drugs.

"I really want to change because the drugs have made me to suffer a lot. Right now I am a cripple and my family has disowned me because of it," Abeid said.

Amina Abdallah, a political activist and the co-ordinator of the Fight Against Drug organisation has called on the youth in Coast province affected by drugs to come out and get treatment.

"Now that the drug addicts have volunteered to fight against the drug menace, sponsors should come up and fund the youth in foods and clothing to them." She said.

Amina also urged the other addicts to come out and be rehabilitated since the government has started giving out free treatment to drug addicts.
