NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 11 – A Kenyan law firm has entered into a partnership with three others in the Eastern African region, forming a legal entity for clients across the region.
Kenya\’s Iseme Kamau & Maema Advocates in Kenya (IKM), Tanzania\’s Ishengoma Karume Masha & Magai (IMMMA Advocates) both members of international legal practice house DLA Piper Group, have joined Uganda\’s Sebalu & Lule Advocates and Rwanda\’s Equity Juris Chambers to form Juris East Africa, a new alliance dedicated to providing regional and international businesses with coordinated legal services across East Africa.
In addition to working together on multijurisdictional transactions, members of Juris East Africa will share between themselves the DLA Piper best practice, training, knowledge and support related to speciality practice areas across the countries.
Speaking during the launch of the Juris East Africa in Kampala Uganda, IKM Managing Partner James Kamau confirmed that the new alliance had been formed to proactively meet an emerging demand for quality legal services across the region.
"The formation of Juris East Africa is a proactive response to the increasing demands from clients in East Africa and investors in this region who have been clear that they are seeking East Africa-wide solutions and that there is a wide gap in the region, which we are happy to help fill," Mr Kamau explained.
As the region continues to emerge as a Foreign Direct Investment hotspot in Africa, Juris East Africa alliance members will work closely together to meet the growing demand from both regional and foreign businesses for coordinated legal services across the region.
IMMMA Advocates Managing Partner Protase Ishengoma, noted that the entry of alliance members from Uganda and Rwanda is geared at adding value to the overall service delivery goals for Juris East Africa across the region.
"Both Sebalu & Lule and Equity Juris Chambers are leading law firms in their countries of operation and will add tremendous value to the Alliance," Ishengoma explained.
DLA Piper, which has its own exclusive alliance with IMMMA Advocates, IKM and four other African law firms, is fully supportive of the launch of Juris East Africa which will enable the firm to provide clients with more coordinated legal services across East Africa.
Working with DLA Piper Africa Group firms, DLA Piper frequently advises on M&A, projects, project finance, infrastructure and government work across Africa.
