Kenya’s PM arrives in Delhi

NEW DELHI, Nov 14 – Prime Minister Raila Odinga has arrived in New Delhi, India for the World Economic Forum  – India Economic Summit 2010.

On arrival on Sunday morning, the Prime Minister was received by the Kenyan High Commissioner of Kenya Prof. Festus Kaberia. Also present to receive the Prime Minister were Ambassadors from the East African Community – Tanzania, Amb.Eng. John Kijau, Uganda, Amb. Nimisha Madhvani, Burundi, Amb.Rubuka Aloys, and Rwanda, Amb.Williams Nkurunziza.
 
The Prime Minister is accompanied to the Summit  by Amos Kimunya, Minister for Transport and other Senior Government officials.

Shortly after arrival, the Prime Minister had a briefing with the Ambassadors from the East African Community. He echoed the  efforts the EAC  Member States are making to move the Community forward.
 
The Prime Minister further said that the thriving peace in the region should be sustained for the EAC to achieve the International standards of the other organised Trading Blocks like the European Union.
 
He expressed his concern on the wavering peace in Southern Sudan as their referendum approaches. He called upon all the member Countries of the East African community to give required support to Southern Sudan during the Referendum in January,2011.
 
The Prime Minister mentioned that the Southern Sudan issues and negotiations  will be discussed during the IGAD meeting in Adis Ababa, Ethiopia.

He emphasised that there is need for the EAC to build East Africa as an emerging market and make it attractive for foreign investments.
