NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 20 – Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has stressed the importance of preserving Kenya’s history through proper documentation and research for the benefit of present and future generations.
Mr Musyoka encouraged citizens to acquaint themselves with the country’s past through reading and visits to paces of historical significance including the National Archives.
The Vice President was addressing staff and wananchi outside the Kenya National Archives after making an extensive tour of the facility where he was conducted through various sections of the country’s history.
Some of the areas he visited included pictorial sections of former colonial Governors, past Presidents and Vice Presidents, Paramount Chiefs, freedom fighters the Joseph Murumbi books and stamps collections, different cultural attires of Kenya’s communities, past government files among others.
Mr Musyoka paid glowing tributes to the country’s heroes and wished Kenyans happy Mashujaa Day celebrations.
“It is important that we recognise contributions made by our heroes including freedom fighters, sportsmen and women among others."
The Vice President commended the National Archives staff for preserving the country\’s historical events and individual contribution to Kenya’s past.
The Vice President was conducted around the facility by the Director Kenya National Archives, Mr John M’Mreria accompanied by the Permanent Secretary National Heritage, Jacob Ole Miaron and his Home Affairs counterpart, Dr Ludeki Chweya among other senior, Archives staffs.
