MERU, Kenya, Oct 22 – After a smooth start to the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations on Thursday, intrigues crept on day two, as delays were reported in Meru while a student went missing in Nyandarua.
Wilson Njoroge Ngigi is reported to have disappeared from the Nyandarua High School compound moments after he sat the English paper on Thursday morning.
Fellow students said they last saw him when they finished writing the paper and he did not turn up for a discussion group which was meant to revise for the next exam.
The school Principal Joseph Mungai said they had notified the boy’s parents and reported the matter to Ol-Kalou police station.
In Meru and Tharaka Nithi, the mathematics paper was delivered late to examinations centres.
Students in the areas were forced to wait for up to two hours before sitting the paper.
Most of the schools especially in Meru Central and Tharaka districts started their paper after the stipulated time.
Tharaka South District Commissioner Charles Monari said the papers were delivered in Marimanti at 9.30am.
“The examination arrived late in Embu which is a two-hour drive to our district headquarters and thus we could not get it on time. This is a mistake by the Kenya National Examination Council,” he said.
In Imenti North examinations papers were delivered shortly past 9am.
In Tharaka, students were closely guarded in their classrooms to avoid communications with their colleagues who had sat the paper at 8am.
Meru South Knut Executive secretary who was monitoring the situation said the delay was a major blow to candidates since it disadvantaged them in terms of preparation for the next paper.
