TSEIKURU, Kenya, Sep 25 – Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has maintained that the provincial administration is there to stay.
Mr Musyoka said security and provincial administration is the key to development in the country and that there is no way such important department can be scrapped.
Speaking at his Tseikuru home, during the 4th memorial service for his late mother, Sarah Malia, the Vice President said he was optimistic that all MPs will support the matter once it is brought to Parliament.
"I am sure once this issue of provincial administration is brought to Parliament for deliberations, no MP will dare to say chiefs must go,’’ said Mr Musyoka.
He said the Government is working round the clock to coming up with ways of serving the people better through the provincial administration.
"Provincial administrators should not worry and instead carry on with their duties without any fear because they are there to stay,’’ added Mr Musyoka.
Mr Musyoka who is also Minister for Home Affairs said the Government is doing everything possible to improve the living standards of its citizens.
He said the Government is giving priority to the initiation of irrigation projects in arid areas to enable the people engage in agricultural activities aimed at uplifting their economic status.
"We are not going to allow our people to become economic refugees in their own country,’’ said the VP.
Mr Musyoka said it is through initiation of irrigation projects and formation of cooperative societies that residents in the country can uplift their economic standards, thus reduce poverty levels.
He said more emphasis is being put in the development of road network to enable farmers market their farm produce with ease.
He assured residents of Tseikuru that plans are underway to improve the state of hospitals in the area.
Mr Musyoka Mairu, the father of the Vice President thanked the residents of the area and friends for the support they have given his family from the time his wife passed away.
Mrs Pauline Musyoka said the late Sarah had greatly contributed towards the successes of their lives.
The memorial service which was conducted by Bishop Robert Mutemi was attended by Public Works Secretary Gideon Mulyungi and Tseikuru DC Stephen Momanyi and Mwingi county council chairman Musyoka Wa Maiyu, family members, friends, relatives and residents of Tseikuru among other areas.
