THIKA, Kenya, Sep 21 – William Kabogo, who has made a comeback as the Member of Parliament for Juja constituency, has said that Narc Kenya was now the party to watch after it scooped two seats in the just concluded by-elections.
Mr Kabogo said on Monday that this was an indication that the party enjoyed support from Kenyans having taken the Juja and Makadara seats.
Speaking at the Thika Municipal hall where the results for Juja constituency were announced, he told Capital News that his priority as he takes over the parliamentary seat would be employment of the youth which would also reduce incidences of crime.
“It has been a long journey and the difficulty in the journey has been that some people don’t truly believe in moving forward,” he said in the interview.
“We have tried to say that we have reforms but some people are hell bent to move us backwards. But the people of Juja made the decision long ago and now we need the people of Juja to be left alone so that we move forward. It is not going to be easy though,” he said.
Hundreds of Juja residents mainly youths braved the evening cold and waited patiently as the final results were announced.
“We expect that he is going to address the issue of joblessness among the youth because like two months ago, youths here were being terrorised and it’s all because they have nothing to do,” commented John Kariuki , a Juja resident.
“I want him to address the issue of hawkers. We are small business people and we need support rather than being harassed by the council every now and then. They should show us where to go,” said Edward Osore another resident.
“I think that now Kabogo has won, we are going to see change because he knows the mistakes he made in the past and I think he will reform,” said yet another resident.
Clad in a green shirt symbolising his party’s colour and a white cap with his name printed on it, Mr Kabogo said he was sure of the win.
“I was expecting this. Sometimes we do miracles only that they sometimes take too long,” he said.
Juja constituency had 188,123 registered voters. 93,008 votes were cast of which 92,228 were valid. At least 780 votes were rejected while none was disputed.
Mr Kabogo garnered over 45,000 votes with his closest rival Alice Wambui Ng’ang’a getting 24,326 votes.
Immediate former Mp George Thuo came a distant third with 19,366 votes.
