Arrest as Pakistan plane lands in Sweden

STOCKHOLM, Sep 25 – Swedish police on Saturday arrested a man on suspicion of planning to blow up a Boeing 777 flying from Canada to Pakistan, after a bomb threat forced an emergency landing in Stockholm.

"A person was arrested for planning to sabotage an airplane," Stockholm police spokesman Kjell Lindgren told AFP.

"The passengers have been evacuated and the suspect who was onboard the plane has been taken to a police post," said the spokesman.

The spokesman said police were searching the plane — a Pakistan Airlines aircraft carrying 273 passengers — for explosives.

The decision to make an emergency landing was made by the pilot, Lindgren said.

A spokesman for Stockholm-Arlanda airport said the plane landed safely.

"An airplane that was not scheduled to land with us has landed here. It landed without problems… There was a bomb threat," Arlanda spokesman Anders Bredfell told AFP.
