Thugs shoot 2 in Kenya’s Capital

NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 6 – Police in Nairobi have launched a manhunt for a two-man gang that killed two people in Kayole estate on Thursday night.

The gang first casually walked into a salon which also doubles as a shop for mobile phone accessories and demanded to be given money by a middle-aged woman who was there at the time.

After a brief argument, one of the gangsters reportedly whipped out a pistol and shot her before they took off. The thugs also shot and killed a man who had parked his vehicle about 500 meters away.

It is not clear if they took anything from him.

“It is regrettable, but I can assure you everything is being done to ensure we get them, an investigation has been launched and the thugs are being sought,” Nairobi Provincial Police chief Anthony Kibuchi said.

Witnesses told police that the man was seated in his vehicle when the gunmen attacked him.

“They tried to get into the vehicle and when he resisted, one of them shot at him and they fled,” a police officer said, quoting a witness.

Mr Kibuchi said no arrest had been made over the attacks as at Friday afternoon.

“Our detectives are searching for them, but there are several people who have recorded statements, they are assisting us with the investigations,” Mr Kibuchi said.

He said the incidents were being treated as normal, because they were not targeted at any specific individuals.

Lately, there has been an increase of crime in Kayole and its environs, despite the intensive patrols by police officers.
