NAIROBI, Kenya, August 27- National fervour is not enough to describe it.
A surge of humanity from all corners of Kenya and the world converged at Nairobi’s Uhuru Park for Friday’s promulgation ceremony.
Thousands of Kenyans started arriving in the wee hours of the morning for the historic ceremony that will usher in the new Constitution.
President Mwai Kibaki was expected to arrive at the ceremony at 9.15am to append his signature on the historic document.
At least 10 foreign heads of State were also expected to grace the occasion set to entrench a new social contract between Kenyans and the various arms of government.
Former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, who was at the forefront of the national accord that brought an end to the 2007 post election violence was among the first dignitaries to arrive at Uhuru Park to witness the birth of the new Constitution.
Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament and several other dignitaries also arrived early at the venue to witness the second most important day since Kenya attained independence on December 12, 1963.
Former Tanzanian president Benjamin Mkapa and Ghana’s John Kufuor were also among leaders who arrived at the venue shortly after 8.15am.
Once the President endorses the document, Chief Justice Evan Gicheru will be the fist senior official to swear allegiance to the new dispensation.
He will be followed by the President, Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka.
Kenya’s military might will also be on show with a spectacular march past by the armed forces.
