Former Kenyan President casts his vote

NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 4- Former President Daniel arap Moi cast his vote early on Wednesday morning as Kenyans trooped to various polling stations countrywide to decide on the proposed Constitution.

Mr Moi who has been one of the main proponents of the ‘No’ campaign voted at exactly 7.30 am at Kabarak Primary School.

Voters made their way to polling stations as early as 4 am to beat the long queues with polling stations scheduled to open at 6 am.

Voting in the densely populated Nakuru town kicked off at six as expected with electors arriving at the polling station earlier than the Interim Independent Electoral Commission (IIEC) officials.
 
At the Nakuru GK Prison, voting had not commenced by the time of going to press as the prison doors open at 8:00 am.
 
The officer in charge of the penal facility however confirmed that everything was set and voting would start in less than half an hour.

In Nairobi’s South C estate, residents started forming long lines at Kongoni Primary School and the Ministry of Works Sports Club to vote on the proposed document.

Twelve and a half million voters are expected to cast their ballot with results set to start trickling in later on Wednesday evening.
