President champions draft in Nyandarua

NYANDARUA, Kenya, Jul 22 – The Proposed Constitution will entrench free education and empower the country’s youth with adequate skills that will promote national development, President Mwai Kibaki has said.

Addressing crowds on Thursday at Ndaragwa and Mairo Inya in Nyandarua North district, President Kibaki expressed his satisfaction that the proposed Constitution also guarantees the provision of improved healthcare to Kenyans among other benefits.

In this regard, the President urged wananchi to ensure they come out to vote for the proposed Constitution on the referendum day, pointing out that they will be doing themselves a lot of disservice if they did not participate in this important national exercise.

“We have searched for a good Constitution like this one for a very long time and now it is time for us all to ensure that we endorse it on the referendum day,” the President said.

The Head of State, once again, pointed out that the proposed Constitution will ensure equitable distribution of resources through devolution, adding that this will ensure that all parts of the country are developed for the benefit of wananchi.

Speaking during the occasion, Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka commended President Kibaki for leading from the front in ensuring that the country gets a constitution the will unite all Kenyans.

In this connection, the Vice-President said Kenyans have a duty to join hands in ensuring that the proposed Constitution is passed by an overwhelming majority at the referendum

The President was accompanied by over 20 Members of Parliament including Cabinet Ministers Amos Kimunya, Kiraitu Murungi, Esther Murugi, Fred Gumo, Njeru Githae and Prof George Saitoti who drummed up support for the proposed Constitution.
