Kibaki woos Kenya Youth to say Yes

NAKURU, Kenya, Jun 19 – President Mwai Kibaki has urged the youth in the country to support the new Constitution as it is tailored to address many of the challenges facing them.

Addressing wananchi at Limuru, Uplands, Naivasha and Gilgil President Kibaki pointed out that by voting for the proposed Constitution the youth will be paving the way for a set of new laws that will encourage increased investment that is essential for economic growth and creation of jobs for them.

The President assured wananchi that he personally supports the new law because it captures the aspiration of the youth who form a big segment of the country’s population.

“We are working towards improving this country because we have the interest of the youth at heart and want to lay a solid foundation that will empower them,” President Kibaki said, adding that the new constitution provides the roadmap that is necessary for the country’s rapid development.

The Head of State emphasized that even as they support the new Constitution Kenyans, particularly the youth, should shun activities that would undermine the spirit of the proposed Constitution.

Said the President: “We have come a long way in the search for a new constitution, let’s join hands in completing this journey successfully so that we will have a Constitution that will serve the country for the present and future generations.”

The President also urged Kenyans not to support the Constitution by word of mouth only but also ensure that they come out in large numbers on August 4 to vote for it.

Speaking at Gilgil, Prime Minister Raila Odinga said while the constitution caters for the needs of all Kenyans, it particularly ensures that women for the first time reap maximum benefits through genuine and effective affirmative action.

He expressed optimism that Kenyans will unite, as they did during the struggle for independence, to give the country a new constitution.
