Kibaki appeals for tolerance over draft law

NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 4 – President Mwai Kibaki on Sunday joined other Christians around the country to celebrate Easter Sunday at Consolata Shrine Westlands, Nairobi.

The Sunday mass was conducted by the Parish Priest Father Marino Gemma who led the congregation in prayers for the nation.

Addressing the congregation, President Kibaki called on Kenyans to tolerate one another and respect the opinion of others as the country approached the Referendum on the proposed Constitution.

The President declared his full support for the draft Constitution that was passed by Parliament on Thursday last week.

‘Most Kenyans are aware that Parliament voted for the proposed Constitution. I support and congratulate Members of Parliament for passing the motion,” the President said.

The President said Kenyans now have an opportunity to make their will known at the Referendum.

“Let us respect one another’s opinion and be tolerant of one another as we approach the Referendum where the sovereign will of the people will be exercised,” the Head of State said.

President Kibaki at the same time reminded Kenyans that all human beings were equal before the creator and urged them to utilise the Easter holiday to strengthen their relationship with God.

"Let’s thank God for His guidance and renew our relationship with Him through embracing the teachings of the Christian doctrine," the President said.
