Kenya hopeful of an African renaissance

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 20 – Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has expressed confidence that the African renaissance would be a reality if member states utilise the available potential and resources for the benefit of the continent.

Mr Musyoka said that Africans should be optimistic about their destiny owing to the continent’s rich history and available opportunities to forge ahead using the existing resources for development.

The Vice President said this during a dinner hosted in honour of participants to the just ended Pan African Media Conference that also marked the 50th Anniversary of the Nation Media Group held at the Carnivore Gardens in Nairobi on Friday evening.

Mr Musyoka commended the media company for successfully hosting the conference that brought together more than 1,000 participants from across the globe to share experiences and challenges in the media industry.

“We are looking forward to hosting a similar event in future. This has been an eye opener to us and we appreciate. The Nation Media is part of our society and history of our Nation”, he said.

The Chairman, Nation Media Group Wilfred Kiboro said the media had a critical role in facilitating positive change in the society and by extension better lives for many in the continent of Africa.

The Nation Media Chief Executive Linus Gitahi thanked the sponsors of the event, saying the occasion enabled participants to reflect on the many challenges facing the media industry and available opportunities to forge forward.

Mr Gitahi stressed the need for local journalists to be patriotic and report objectively as a way of marketing the continent as a favourable investment destination.

“There is need for us to have vibrant, positive relations with political leadership and the civil society, a free media would play a crucial role in promoting national cohesion and development”, the CEO stated.
