Japan Crown Prince ends Kenya tour

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 13 – Japan\’s Crown Prince Naruhito left Kenya on Saturday after a three-day official visit.

Prince Naruhito was seen off at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, Japanese Ambassador to Kenya, Shigeu Iwatani, Nobel laureate Wangari Maathai, Senior government officials and a number of Japanese residents in Kenya.

“The plane carrying the Crown Prince and his thirty high level delegations took off shortly after 1.30pm,” a statement from Vice President Press Unit said.

While in Kenya Prince Naruhito met and held talks with President Mwai Kibaki, Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, several Cabinet Ministers and senior government officials

On Thursday he met with President Kibaki, who hailed Japan\’s "continued financial and technical support" notably in programmes to combat climate change.

The Prince also toured several Japanese funded development projects including the Japanese International School, Tourist cites that include, Mt. Kenya, Sweat Waters Game reserve and the National Museums of Kenya.

Ms Maathai helped the prince plant a tree at Sweetwaters camp inside the conservancy, adding to the some 30 million trees that her Green Belt Movement has planted on the African continent since its creation in 1977.

He also met with Japanese residents in Kenya.

The prince, 50, arrived in Nairobi late Wednesday for a three-day trip that follows a visit to Ghana.

Prince Naruhito said his country appreciated collaboration with Kenya and would continue to partner it in various areas of development.
