Kenya to host peace convention

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 16 – President Mwai Kibaki on Tuesday held talks with the Global Peace Festival Foundation Chairman Dr Hyun Jin Moon who paid him a courtesy call.

During the meeting, Dr Moon briefed President Kibaki on the activities of his organisation particularly the Global Peace Convention set to be held in Nairobi in November this year.

He said that Kenya won the bid to host the peace conference after beating other countries including the Philippines, Indonesia, Paraguay and Brazil.

Dr Moon pointed out that the Nairobi convention will bring together peace-builders, the youth, religious leaders, politicians, civil society leaders and philanthropic groups from around the world.

On his part, President Kibaki encouraged the Global Peace Festival Foundation to step up its peace initiatives in the world.

The President also commended Dr Manu Chandaria, the National Chairman of the Private Sector Advisory Council for the Global Peace Foundation, who was present, for facilitating partnership in peace-building in the country.

Also present during the meeting were Youth and Sports Minister Prof Helen Sambili, the Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet Amb Francis Muthaura, Permanent Secretary James Waweru and Anglican Church of Kenya Archbishop Eliud Wabukala among others.
