Kibaki hails MPs over revised draft law

, NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 29 – President Mwai Kibaki has today congratulated the Parliamentary Select Committee on the Constitution for reaching a broad consensus on the Draft Constitution.

President Kibaki said it was remarkable that members of the Committee had come up with a draft that to a large extent reflected the wishes of most Kenyans.

The President said the Government would fully support the realization of a new Constitutional dispensation that reflected the will of the Kenyan people.

“Your retreat in Naivasha was based on a spirit of give and take.  In the final analysis you managed to achieve a consensus.  I congratulate you and assure you of the government’s full support in the remaining stages of the constitution review process”.

“Kenyans have yearned for a new constitution for a long time.  I am confident that this time our country is on the path to attaining a new constitution that will serve Kenyans well,” said President Kibaki in his congratulatory message.

President Kibaki appealed to all Kenyans to support the remaining stages of the constitution review process.
