British soldier charged in Kenya

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 6 – A British Army officer was charged in court on Wednesday after he allegedly assaulted a senior police officer who had stopped him as he drove on the wrong side of the road in Nairobi.

The soldier was charged at the Kibera Law Courts for assaulting the officer in charge of the Parklands police station Chief Inspector Stephen Okal who had stopped him on Limuru Road near Ojijo roundabout on Tuesday.

He was identified in court documents as David Robins who is attached to the Kifaru Barracks.

The Briton appeared before Kibera Chief Magistrate Grace Nzioka but denied assaulting the OCS and creating disturbance in a manner likely to breach peace.

Court documents stated that Mr Robins uttered the words ‘f*#! you black monkey’ during the confrontation.

He was granted a bond of Sh50,000 and ordered to deposit his passport in court.

The case is due to be heard on March 16.
