THE HAGUE, Dec 16 – The Netherlands reduced its terror alert to "limited", as they are less of a "choice target" for Islamist terrorism, the services for national coordination of anti-terrorism announced Tuesday.
"The lowering of the level of threat comes from the fact that the Netherlands are less considered as a choice target by international jihadist organisations", the press release said.
"This shows that the risk of a terrorist attack against the Netherlands or Dutch interests is relatively weak, but we can not rule it out completely".
The "limited" level is the second of four levels of alert in the Netherlands. It had been raised to "substantial" in March 2008 after concerns over an anti-Islam film by far-right Dutch MP Geert Wilders.
Al-Qaeda\\\’s ability to attack in Europe is "more limited compared to a year ago", the release says.
In the Netherlands, "the situation regarding the jihadist networks is relatively calm. They are concentrating more on the theatres of international conflict", such as Somalia.
