Kibaki to lead Kenyatta Day fete

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 20 – President Mwai Kibaki is set to lead the nation on Tuesday in marking the 46th Kenyatta Day.

The President will begin the celebrations by laying a wreath at the mausoleum of Kenya’s founding father where he will be received by Speaker of the National Assembly Kenneth Marende.

"The Head of State will then proceed to Nyayo National Stadium and will be received by the Chief of General Staff Gen Jeremiah Kianga," a statement from Presidential Press Service said.

The President is expected to arrive at the stadium shortly before 11 am.

A march-past by detachments of the Kenya Armed Forces and all disciplined forces will curtain-raise events and entertainment at the stadium.

Lined up to entertain the nation at this year’s special occasion is renowned Kenyan singer Marion Shako.

The climax of the celebrations will be an address to the nation by President Kibaki.

Kenyatta Day is marked to remind Kenyans of the struggle and suffering of their national heroes who fought for independence.
