KHARTOUM, Sep 14 – Sudanese authorities have intercepted a boat on the Red Sea carrying more than 260 illegal immigrants, an Internet website considered close to the intelligence services reported on Sunday.
It cited a security source as saying that marine forces had been monitoring smugglers’ activities and they had seized a boat in the Kalitab area and arrested 260 people on board, both men and women.
The source said the passengers were taken amid strict security to the town of Sawakin 50 kilometres (30 miles) south of Port Sudan for investigation.
The nationalities of those on board and their final destination was not yet known.
