Samsung unveils Tracker

NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 19 – Did you know that if you are a Samsung Mobile Phone user you can easily trace your stolen phone using a tracker device in your handset?

Navigate through your mobile phone menu and follow through to activate the Mobile Tracker which will automatically send text messages to two of your friends whenever you lose your phone and a different SIM card is inserted in it.

“The Samsung Mobile tracker is available on all Samsung mobile phones except the dual sim phones and Samsung Windows Mobile phones,” Samsung’s Marketing Manager Gloria Anampiu explains.

Ms Anampiu said once the Sumsung Mobile phone users activate their devices to the tracker, they will be able to allocate two mobile phone numbers which will be automatically notified once the phone is stolen or a different SIM card inserted in it.

“It works automatically, once two mobile phone numbers are allocated, the phone will be able to automatically send text messages from the new number to the two people notifying them. This will then help the owner of the phone to locate his mobile phone because they will have been notified by the two persons who in most cases are either best friends or relatives,” she added.

However, Ms Anampiu said it is advisable for the devise owners to retain their original receipts for the purchase of the phone or the box that has the IMEI number of the phone as this will help them when they wish to proof that they are original owners of the phone.

In recognition of the fact that most Samsung mobile phone users are not familiar with the Tracking service in their phones, Ms Anampiu said they plan to roll out a countrywide campaign to sensitise users of the new technology.

“It is not something new, this has been in existence it is only that most users do not know about it and we plan to do a campaign to sensitize them,” she said at the company’s offices in Parklands.

Recently, three suspects who had robbed a man of his mobile phone and money was arrested by police in Kasarani police station after they traced them using the new technology.

Kasarani divisional Police chief Jasper Ombati said detectives at the station were able to trace the three suspects after the mobile phone owner reported to them and showed them two messages his phone had automatically sent to his friends notifying them of the new user.

“That is when our officers lured one of the suspect and he was immediately arrested. Two other suspects who were his accomplices were also arrested later.”
