Roads closed ahead of Clinton visit

NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 4 – Police announced on Tuesday that traffic flow would remain interrupted in Nairobi until Thursday following the ongoing AGOA Conference.

A statement from Police headquarters said Parliament Road from the junction of Harambee Avenue roundabout to the City Hall Way near the Intercontinental Hotel would remain closed.

The City Hall Way from Uhuru Highway and the Posta road leading to GPO from City Hall Way roundabout would also be closed.

Other affected roads include Parliament road to Kaunda Street junction.

“We wish to announce that the stated roads will remain closed from 9am Tuesday until 5pm Thursday,” Police Spokesman Erick Kiraithe said and urged motorists to comply with the regulations.

Where possible, he said, motorists should avoid the city centre to avoid being inconvenienced.

Mr Kiraithe said only vehicles with Agoa Conference stickers would be allowed to access the restricted roads.

He however, said vehicles delivering essential services from the Nairobi City Council, the police and Ambulances would be allowed to access the roads.

He said traffic police officers would be stationed at strategic points to direct traffic.

Most motorists were caught unawares by the directive on Tuesday morning.
