Mango releases Scarlett Johansson campaign

SPAIN, Jul 28 – Spanish clothing retailer Mango has published the first pictures of its fall/winter collection starring the Hollywood actress.

Johansson is wearing a black leather skirt and a black bodysuit underneath a leopard-print blouse, which will all hit international Mango stores come fall. The picture is the first release of the series shot by star photographer Mario Sorrenti and styled by the company’s creative director Damián Sánchez.

Mango is going for a slimmer silhouette this season, according to a press spokesperson, with the collection comprising cigarette pants, leggings, and pencil skirts. There will also be a heavy 1980s influence as well as lots of glitter, zips and sequins.

Johansson takes over from Spanish actress Penelope Cruz who had been the face of the brand’s campaigns for four consecutive seasons, also fronting the clothing line her sister Monica designed for Mango. Cruz and Johansson also starred together in director Woody Allen’s movie, Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Explaining their choice, Mango said that Johansson was an "extraordinary personality, fun, [and] young," adding: "She’s Mango’s ideal urban woman, independent and cosmopolitan."

With this move, Mango indicates a continuing shift from fashion models to actresses to embody its brand, following on the heels of the choice of Penelope Cruz. The brand earlier featured top models such as Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Eva Herzigova, Milla Jovovich, and Lizzy Jagger in its ads.

Johansson also models for Italian fashion label Dolce & Gabbana’s makeup range and is currently shooting the movie Iron Man 2, due out in cinemas worldwide in May 2010.
