Man loses organ in scuffle with police

KISUMU, Kenya, Jun 9 – An Administration Police officer is facing charges of attempted murder for allegedly chopping off a suspect’s private parts in Nyamira District.

The officer was on leave when the incident occurred at the Kibirigo Administration Police camp on Monday.

“He is said to have taken a knife from his pocket and chopped off the man’s private parts,” according to Nyanza Police Chief Anthony Kibuchi.

Mr Kibuchi narrated how a suspect had earlier been arrested by members of the public accused of stealing several bags of fertilizer from a local shop.

The suspect was frog matched to the APs camp where there was no officer to be found because they had all gone out for a routine patrol in the region.

“They found the officers out of the camp and decided to wait a little longer since the local police station was miles away,” Mr Kibuchi explained.

As they waited as a man in his mid 30s arrived at the station and introduced himself as an AP officer.

After carefully listening to an explanation on why the 30-year-old suspect had been arrested, he proceeded to chop off the man’s genitals.

Mr Kibuchi said that members of the public who were present then arrested the AP.

“They thought he was a bogus officer after witnessing the action he took. They arrested him and kept him hostage as they continued to wait for the APs to return from their patrol,” said the PPO.

The injured victim was rushed to Nyamira District Hospital where he was admitted in a serious condition.

Mr Kibuchi confirmed that the officer was booked at the Nyamira District Police Station where upon interrogation he was found to be an officer based in Rift Valley province.

The Nyanza police chief said the suspect would be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are complete.
