New Kenya ministers take oath

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 7 – President Mwai Kibaki on Thursday witnessed the swearing in of the new Minister for Nairobi metropolitan Development Robinson Njeru Githae and an Assistant Minister for Local Government Lewis Ng’ang’a Nguyai.

The ceremony held at State House Nairobi was conducted by the Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet Amb Francis Muthaura.

Until his elevation to the Cabinet on Monday, Mr Githae who is the MP for Ndia was an Assistant Minister for Local Government while Mr Nguyai is the MP for Kikuyu.

President Kibaki congratulated the two on their appointments and wished them well in their new Government assignments.

The President expressed confidence in the abilities of the two ministers to serve Kenyans in their new capacities.

Mr Githae who was Mr Nguyai’s predecessor at the Local Government Ministry was elevated to replace Mutula Kilonzo who in turn had moved to the Justice, Constitutional Affairs and National Cohesion docket.

The key Justice ministry was left vacant by the resignation of Ndia MP Martha Karua who complained of frustrations by powerful officials in the President’s office, who were against her reform agenda.
