NAIROBI, Kenya, May 8 – A man has moved to the High Court seeking damages from a group of women activists who organised the just ended weeklong countrywide sex boycott.
James Kimondo said on Friday that he has been aggrieved by the decision and wants the court to order the G10 women group to pay him damages
Mr Kimondo, through his lawyer Wanjohi Gachie, has said that he suffered terribly after his wife denied him denied sex for seven days.
The particulars of the damages caused according to Mr Kimondo are mental anguish, stress, backaches, lack of concentration, anger, lack of sleep and gross interference with his conjugal rights.
He wants the High Court to enter judgment against the chairlady of the lobby group Ann Njogu, as well as activists Patricia Nyaundi, Carole Agengo and Rukia Subow.
The Kenyan women caucus dubbed the G10 called for a week-long sex boycott to compel the country’s leadership to solve their wrangles.
The women organisations include Maendeleo ya Wanawake, National Council of Women of Kenya, Coalition on Violence against Women, Centre for Rights Education and Awareness, Tomorrow’s Child Initiative, Women in Law and Development, African Woman and Child and Development through Media, Young Women Leadership Institute and the Federation of Women Lawyers – Kenya (Fida).
Separately, the High Court was on Friday informed that the Attorney General and Commissioner of Police have agreed to produce Mungiki leader Maina Njenga in court on Wednesday.
Senior State Counsel James Warui told Justice Mohammed Warsame that the two top officials have signed consent to arraign Mr Njenga in court.
This follows a directive issued by Justice Warsame on Wednesday ordering the respondents to explain why they are holding Mr Njenga in secret police custody.
Lawyer Kibe Mungai had filed a habeas corpus application protesting the continued incarceration of Mr Njenga, after he was re-arrested on April 28 shortly after being acquitted by the High Court.
Following his re-arrest, Police Spokesman Erick Kiraithe said Mr Njenga was being held over the massacre of 28 people in Kirinyaga by Mungiki followers.
