Kisia appointed Nairobi Town Clerk

NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 29 – Philip Kisia is the new Nairobi City Council Town Clerk.

The Public Service Commission appointed the immediate former Managing Director of Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) on Wednesday to replace former Town Clerk John Gakuo, who retired last month.

Deputy Town Clerk Geoffrey Katsolleh has been acting as Town Clerk after Mr Gakuo’s exit.

Kisia served as the Chairman of the Nairobi Central Business District Association (NCBDA) before moving to KICC.

He has been credited with transforming the city’s first skyscraper after years of neglect by the former regime.

“Before the Kibaki administration in 2003 this complex used to be run by the then ruling party KANU, the face was of a rotten place, dirty, no customer orientation, no lifts and it lacked proper management. Actually there was nothing like management, the place was not running like a business,” Mr Kisia told Capital News early this year.

The government successfully reclaimed the complex in 2003 and was run as a department of the Tourism Ministry until it became a State Corporation in 2004.

Mr Kisia oversaw various projects during his time as NCBDA boss, including beautification, community policing, public toilets and street lighting.
