BANGUI, April 30 – All seven crew members were killed in the crash of a Boeing 737 in western Democratic Republic of Congo, the transport minister of the Central African Republic, where the plane was registered, said Thursday.
The accident happened Wednesday as the plane was landing at Kenge, 320 kilometres (200 miles) east of Kinshasa on its way from Bangui to Harare, in Zimbabwe.
Minister Parfait Anicet Mbay said the aircraft was flying to Zimbabwe for repairs after spending two years in Cameroon.
He indicated that although the Central African Republic did not have the facilities to repair the plane it had been checked and given the all clear to make the flight.
The crew who died comprised two Cameroonians, two from the Congo Republic, and one each from the CAR, Zimbabwe and France, he said.
Mbay’s counterpart from the Congo Republic, Emile Ouosso, said earlier the plane had made a stopover in Brazzaville. He said it had not flown for a year.
