NAIROBI, Kenya, February 11- Collins Injera is back on top of the International Rugby Board (IRB) Sevens top try scorers chart with 14 tries to his name.

Lavin Asego is also one of this season’s top performers so far as the Mwamba flyhalf is currently the second top goal scorer with 26 behind New Zealand’s Tomasi Cama who has 35 and is the fifth on the points scorers list with 72.

Injera who scored five tries in Wellington last weekend including two in Kenya’s historic win over South Africa shares top spot with Australia’s Luke Morahan.

The 2008 Sports Personality of the Year (SOYA) nominee is confident that the best is yet to come from him.

“I am still on target. My aim is to be among the top three when the season ends,” said the Mwamba winger.

He knows that crossing the line in San Diego will not be easy because every team now knows his potential.

“I know there will be so much attention on me in San Diego but that may open chances for the other players,” said Injera.

Kenya who are currently sixth on the IRB standings with 18 points will be keen to build on their performance in Wellington where they topped Pool A and reached the main cup semi final for the third time in their history.

Benjamin Ayimba’s side are in Pool B of this weekend’s San Diego leg alongside defending series champions and World Cup favourites New Zealand, France and South American side Uruguay.

The Kiwis will be without their inspirational captain and 2008 IRB Sevens player of the year DJ Forbes who pulled out of the tournament because of a foot injury while Cama will also be unavailable.
