President consoles fire victims

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, Feb 1- President Mwai Kibaki has sent a message of condolence to the families, relatives and friends of the over 111 people who perished when a petrol tanker burst into flames  at Sachangwan area  three kilometers from Salgaa shopping centre in Molo District.

The President who is attending the 12th ordinary session of the Assembly of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia said he was saddened that so many Kenyans had lost their lives through such a tragic accident that has affected many families.

He expressed deep sympathy for the bereaved families and wished the over 178 others admitted in various Hospitals with serious injuries a quick recovery.

"I stand with the bereaved families, their relatives and friends during this difficult time and I pray that God grants them courage to bear the tragic loss of the loved ones," the Head of State said.

The President regretted that such a tragic accident occurred so soon after another fire killed many at Nakumatt supermarket in Nairobi.

He has directed all relevant arms of Government and departments to take necessary measures to avert such tragedies.
