Stars seek place in semis against Burundi

, NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 7 – Harambee Stars take on Group B leaders Burundi on Thursday in a must win encounter if they are to be assured of a place in the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Senior Challenge Cup semi finals.

Stars will be buoyed by Tuesday’s 5-1 thrashing of Djibouti in Jinja after struggling to score in their first two games against Sudan and Zambia with Francis Ouma weighing in with a hat trick.

Stars tactician Francis Kimanzi will be hoping for more goals from last season’s Kenya Premier League (KPL) Golden Boot winner, who scored 15 goals for Mathare United and recently joined the Tanzanian outfit AZAM FC.

Kenya is level with Zambia in the standings with five points, while Burundi occupies the top spot with seven after victories over Sudan and Djibouti and a draw against Zambia.

Despite the win, Kimanzi still has to address the issue of finishing after his charges continued to miss several chances against their opponents, with Ouma guilty of some missed opportunities.

Another area of concern will be that none of his other striking partners are yet to find the back of the net.

Two of Stars’ other goals came from defenders Joseph Shikokoti and George Owino in the second half.

Kimanzi most likely will stick with the same squad members that featured against Djibouti and continue to impose themselves physically at the Nakivubo Stadium.

The match kicks off at 4 pm Kenyan time.

Probable Stars Line up:

Duncan Ochieng, Jamal Mohammed, George Owino, Edgar Ochieng, Joseph Shikokoti, Osborne Monday, Francis Ouma, Austin Makacha, Mulinge Ndetto, Mike Baraza, Joseph Njuguna.
