NAIROBI, January 18 – Harambee Stars coach Francis Kimanzi has been sacked.
Mr Kimanzi, under whose guidance that Stars’ game has been shining, was shown the door by Football Kenya Limited (FKL) on Sunday for ‘indiscipline’ and ‘strong headedness’.
FKL also cited at a press conference in a Nairobi hotel that Mr Kimanzi had to be relieved because of poor show at the just concluded CECAFA challenge, where Harambee Stars lost 1-0 to Uganda’s Cranes at the finals last Tuesday.
His assistants James Nandwa and Yusuf Chippo have also been sacked.
John Bobby Ogollah has been appointed the new coach, to be assisted by Sony sugar coach Francis Barasa, while Patrick Naggi is the new team manager.
FKL, meanwhile, has also named a provisional 37-man squad for next week’s friendly against Egypt.
It is this friendly that had proven to be Mr Kimanzi’s undoing after he claimed he was kept in the dark about the tourney.
The former Stars’ coach, who also leads the Kenyan Premier League champions Mathare United, had dared officials at FKL to sack him after declaring he was not consulted about the Egypt friendly and could not name a team to travel to the North African country.
He claimed that the majority of the national team was preparing for the African Champions League, and the friendly would affect their performance.
