Kibaki honours Speaker, Clerk

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 23 – National Assembly Speaker Kenneth Otiato Marende and the Clerk to the National Assembly Patrick Gichuru Gichohi have been honoured by President Mwai Kibaki.

President Kibaki bestowed on the National Assembly Speaker the Second Class Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (EGH) award while the Clerk to the National Assembly was awarded First Class Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) for their distinguished service to the nation.

The brief ceremony was conducted by the Head of Civil Service and Secretary to the Cabinet Francis Muthaura at the President’s Harambee House office.

Speaking during the occasion, President Kibaki congratulated Mr Marende and Mr Gichohi for their achievements and urged them to continue working diligently in serving the nation in their respective capacities.

On their part, Mr Marende and Mr Gichohi thanked President Kibaki for the awards and promised to discharge their duties effectively for the benefit of the country and its people.

Later, Mr Marende presented the new standing orders of Parliament to the President.

The National Assembly Speaker said the new standing orders will take effect in the 3rd Session of the 10th Parliament which begins in March.
 
Public Service Minister Dalmas Otieno was also present during the ceremony.
