Kibaki appoints Ngare in place of Mwatela

NAIROBI, November 3 – Mary Ngare has been appointed Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Northern Kenya and other Arid Lands in place of former Deputy Central Bank Governor Jacinta Mwatela who rejected the posting two months ago.

Ngare was previously the Director of Administration at the Ministry of Health.

In the changes made by President Mwai Kibaki on Monday, former Rangwe MP Engineer Philip Okundi was appointed Chairman of the Communications Commission of Kenya replacing Joseph Kagau.

Mr Shukri Barmadi who was previously The Director of the National Intelligence Academy was appointed Chairman of Kenya Ports Authority and Jacob Kabutu Mwirigi the Chairman of Jomo Kenyatta Foundation.

Mark Kitaanyu ole Karbolo was named Chairman of East Africa Portland Cement Company.

The President also appointed Rosemary Nyanjom as the deputy chairperson of Public Service Commission (PSC) while former PS Rachael Arunga has been appointed a commissioner to the PSC.

Professor J.K. ole Korei was posted Chairman of Narok University College and Hellen Jepkoech Cheramboss as the Vice Chairperson.

Mrs Mwatela had a long career at the CBK where she moved up the ranks to the position of Deputy Governor.
 
She turned down her new appointment as PS claiming she was hounded out of CBK for blocking a money-printing tender that could have led to the government losing Sh2 billion.
