NAIROBI, October 14 – Local players turn their focus on the lucrative Kenya Premier League which is entering its final stretch with six games to go.
Western Stima host Sher Karuturi at Bukhungu Stadium on Wednesday in a game that was called off last month due to heavy rains.
The under pressure Western side are hovering just above the relegation zone and will be looking to capitalise on their home ground advantage to salvage three crucial points to stay clear of the danger zone.
Following their 3-1 loss to coastal side Bandari the Kakamega based team is in 14th place and has collected 25 points for their first season in the premier league.
The Kakamega based team has lost their last two previous fixtures and have conceded the highest number of goals same as Mahakama with 30 goals in the 16 team standings.
Stima will look to international trialist Chris Litswa to marshal their defence while strikers Augustine Etemesi and Mark Sirengo will lead the hunt for goals.
Sher Karuturi who began a new life without Coach James Nandwa with a narrow 1-0 win over Mathare Youth in Naivasha, will be seeking for a second consecutive win under new coach and former manager Sammy Okoth.
A win for seventh place Sher in the mid week clash will drive them to a good ending of the season while Stima needs to garner points in the remaining fixtures in order for them to increase their survival chances.
They will however have to do without national team goalkeeper Noah Ayuko who only arrived in the country on Wednesday morning from international assignment in Conakry, Guinea.
The Naivasha based team which has conceded the least number of goals behind Sony Sugar will rely on their hawk eyed defence to stop the Stima front line.
