Kenya faces Senegal, Botswana in new 7s draw

NAIROBI, October 28 – The National Sevens team has been drawn with Senegal and Botswana in the Africa Zone Rugby World Cup Sevens qualifiers in Tunisia, in a new draw released on Tuesday.

The new draw was carried out following the withdrawal of Kenya’s initial Pool A adversaries Morocco, Ivory Coast and Swaziland who were in Pool D.

Hosts Tunisia have opted to field a second side to give the tournament a full complement of three teams in each pool.

Tunisia’s first team and tournament second seeds are in Pool B with Zambia and Nigeria while Zimbabwe, Madagascar and Cameroon make up Pool C.

Pool D has Uganda, which took part in this year’s Nakuru Prinsloo Sevens, Namibia and Tunisia II.

Kenya needs to finish amongst the top three if they are to qualify for their third Sevens World Cup in Dubai next year.

Meanwhile, Christie Sevens winners Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) are top seeds for this weekend’s George Kabeberi Sevens, the final round of the National Sevens Circuit, at the Rugby Football Union of East Africa (RFUEA).

KCB, who are perched on third place in the circuit standings with 44 points, headline Pool A, which also has United States International University (USIU), Christie Bowl winners Kenya Harlequins and Catholic University.

Nakuru, who lie second with 46 points, are in Pool B alongside Nondies, Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) and Masinde Muliro University.
