NAIROBI, September 12 – Weather experts have warned of increased road and air accidents following the onset of the short rains, which are being recorded in most parts of the country.
As a result, Director of Meteorological Services, Dr Joseph Mukabana has cautioned motorist and pilots to be extra careful during the season, which is expected in the next few weeks.
“Motorists are advised to drive carefully in order to avoid accidents that may emanate from the poor road conditions and poor visibility during downpours,” advised the weatherman in a weather report for the months of October to December.
The director noted that visibility at airports during storms and the development of thunder clouds in the afternoons in Kericho and Nandi areas could pose a threat to the air transport sector.
Mukabana said rainfall distribution within the coming months was expected to be good over most parts of Western, Central and Southern parts of the country.
The weatherman has also alerted the disaster management team to be on the look out for floods and mudslides in some parts of Nyanza, Central and Western.
The meteorological department has predicted that as a result of the short rains, some parts like Murang’a and Budalangi may experience floods and called on relevant authorities to closely monitor the situation.
