Police gun down seven thugs

NAIROBI, September 1 – Seven suspected gangsters were gunned down in Kikuyu early Monday morning.

According to police, five of the suspects had carjacked a motorist whom they robbed and left by the roadside before driving off in his car.

Police were alerted by witnesses and managed to intercept the vehicle a few kilometres away.

When they were ordered to surrender, officers said the suspects opened fire instead, prompting a shoot-out.

“Our officers managed to gun down all the suspects. Two of them have been identified as notorious robbers in this region,” Kiambu divisional Police chief Jay Munyambu said.

Munyambu told Capital News that they recovered two AK-47 rifles and 20 rounds of ammunition from the slain men.

The stolen vehicle was also recovered in the 5.30am incident that occurred a few kilometres from Kikuyu town.

Munyambu revealed that the suspects had become notorious for carjackings and robberies in Kiambu and Kikuyu, where at least four incidents are reported every week.

Two other suspects were gunned down in Nairobi’s Eastleigh estate.
