P Square, O P Square

NAIROBI, September 23 – The ever so popular Nigerian R&B sibling singers P-Square are lined up in action this October, among the live performers for the Channel O Music Video Awards.

Peter and Paul Okoye will join Rhythmic Elements, Bleksem, Witness, D’Banj, Ikechukwu and others who are slated to perform at the much-hyped event.

“P-Square is hugely popular among Channel O audiences across the continent and after their stellar performance at the Big Brother Africa 2 Final last year, we are simply thrilled to welcome them back to be part of another big television event in South Africa,” says Yolisa Phahle, Channel O’s General Manager.

P-Square are identical twins from Lagos, Nigeria who have earned a large following with their soulful sound, which also includes elements of their heritage.

The duo first appeared on the scene with the debut album Last Nite, which was released in 2003, and rapidly turned P-Square into a household name.

They followed this with the independent 2005 release of Get Squared, which produced several radio and television hits- including the track “Bizzy Body 2” featuring Weird MC.

In November 2007, P-Square released their third album titled Game Over. The song “Do Me”, which has been nominated twice at this year’s Channel O Music Video Awards, has blazed up charts and is destined to remain an evergreen hit for the duo.

Like any other twins, they might be identical but their distinct personalities set them apart. Paul has always had an avid interest in song-writing, while Peter is more fanatical about dance and choreography.

Peter choreographs the dance sequences in the group’s routines. He also plays the acoustic and bass guitar – as well as the drums -, while Paul plays the keyboard and does the production and sequencing of their songs.

The Channel O Music Video Awards, hosted by KB Ngakane and Nonhle Thema, will take place in Johannesburg on Thursday October 9, at the Big Top Arena in Carnival City.
