Daggers drawn in KPL

NAIROBI, September 26 – With only ten matches to go in the Kenya Premier League, there will be mouthwatering action this weekend.

League leaders Mathare United on 45 points host coast side Bandari FC in a lunch time fixture at Nyayo National stadium on Sunday.

 After their 2-0 shock defeat by struggling Ulinzi stars at Greensteads, Francis Kimanzi’s side will be going for victory to extend the gap on chasing title challengers Sony Sugar who are only two points adrift.

The slum boys who have conceded three goals in two matches and without scoring will be seeking to stop the rot against Bandari who have a poor away record.

Third place World Hope on 35 points and a game in hand visit second place Sony Sugar that have 43 points for a crucial match in Awendo on Saturday.

Francis Baraza’s side was 1-0 winners over basement side Gor Mahia and a win over World Hope could put them on top of the table for atleast 24 hours and add more pressure on Mathare.

After a 2-1 loss to Agro Chemicals, Thika United who are adrift of leaders United with 11 points, visit Naivasha based Sher Karuturi in another tricky tie that will put their slim title chances under severe test.

Gor Mahia will hope to register their first league win under James Siang’a against Western Stima at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday evening.

Gor pipped Nationwide side, Bidco United 2-0 in the KFF Cup on Wednesday at Kasarani to go to through to the last four and will be looking to build on that against the Western Kenya visitors.

Relegation threatened Red Berets host Mahakama at Greensteads following their 1-0 loss to Mathare Youth at Hope Centre. 

A win for the law enforcers soldiers will increase their survival chances in the league and move to 12th place with 25 points. Mathare Youth host CECAFA champions Tusker FC at Nyayo National Stadium onSaturday.

The defending champions are out of contention and Coach Neville Pudo is desperate for a win over Gabriel Njoroge’s side that is staring at relegation in the face.

In other matches to be played, fourth place Agro Chemicals host Ulinzi Stars while eighth place Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) visits seventh place Chemilil Sugar in Muhoroni.
