Triumphant Kenyans to expected back today

NAIROBI, August 27 – Kenya’s Olympians were to arrive back in the country Wednesday evening to a heroes welcome after they executed our best Olympic campaign ever.

The plane carrying them is expected to touch down at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 7 pm.

Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka is to lead a high-powered government delegation to receive the team that raised Kenya’s flag high at the Summer Games in Beijing, China.

They bagged a total of 14 medals; five gold, five silver and four bronze securing Kenya’s number one position on the continent and 15th worldwide.

The gold winners were Pamela Chelimo, Nancy Chebet, Brimin Kipruto, Samuel Kamau Wanjiru and Wilfred Bungei.

The squad led by its captain Bungei, will be hosted to a lavish dinner at the famous Carnivore Simba Saloon Restaurant.

They will then rest for a day before flying to Mombasa on Friday where they will be hosted by President Mwai Kibaki.
