Police hunt for Meru paedophile

MERU, August 26 – Police in Meru South district are on the hunt for a middle aged farmer who allegedly defiled a six-year-old girl at Mwonge village.

Confirming the incident, area Deputy Police boss Alfred Ang’eng’o said that the man committed the offence three weeks ago but a report was only made on Monday.

The defiled girl is in a nursery school in the village.

Ang’eng’o said the incident only came to light when the girl, who lives with her elder sister, was asked why she was having difficulty walking.

Her sister then took her to the Chuka General Hospital where examinations indicated that she had indeed been defiled.

The police official said that the man had gone into hiding after area residents threatened to lynch him.

Meanwhile, a man has been arrested in Iruri village in Meru South, for allegedly beating up a 62- year-old woman to death.

Meru South police boss Tom Mutisya told journalists that the woman was found lying unconscious by the roadside, about 100 metres from her house, on Tuesday morning.

She was rushed by good Samaritans to the Materi Mission Hospital, but succumbed to head injuries just before arrival.
