Boldy scoops Nakuru KCB Western Union rally

NAKURU, August 2 – Commandeering his Subaru N12 in the treacherous, twisty and fast course, Baldev (Boldy) Chager navigated by Farakh Yusuf notched up his sixth career win Sunday in the KCB sponsored Western Union Rally in Mogotio area.

The win has propelled him to the top of the leader board of the Championship and claiming his first win this year since last year’s Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Mavuno Loan Rally in Nanyuki last year.

The aggressive but cautious driver led the rally from start to finish in a rally that saw top contenders top favourite Lee Rose and defending Champion Carl Tundo knocked out of contention.

Being first on the road, Rose was the first casualty in the main competition after getting stuck in the Molo River on the 9Km repeat run (CS4) and was later towed to service at Alphega Factory and his appeal to restart the rally was turn down.

Rose was the only driver to have gone through the shoulder-high river crossing but his predicament prompted clerk of the course Mike Borrissow to cancel the stage.

As for Tundo, he had a smooth run but was forced to retired in the CS8 Hilltop stage when he lost his breaks and went off the sisal estates.

"I feel very depressed because I was well in the good run for championship points. It’s a painful way to go out but rules are there to be followed," said Tundo.

Charger now leads the series with 275points while Lee Rose and Carl Tundo dropped to third and 4th on 250 and 230points.

"The car behaved very well. We took the risk on the rough and it really paid off. It was all down to chances. We had a fair bit of misfortunes when we went off four times luckily nothing was broken" said Chager as he entered his last service at Alphega.

Asad Anwar of Oil was second overall followed by Alastair Cavenaugh completing the podium in third.

Out of the 21 cars that took part in the KCB KNRC class only 12 survived the rocky terrain.

The next round will be the KCB Easy Pay Loan Rally in Nanyuki from the 30th to the 31st of August.

TWO WHEEL DRIVE

New entrant Charles Hinga seemed to have mastered his Toyota Levin to drive it to the finish line.

Hinga, who is racing in his first year using the Levin formerly owned by Robert Gow, consolidated his position at the top of the table by tightening his grip as the leader even after winning the 200B KCB Safari Rally.

In second place was Leronado Varese followed by Leamy Karienye.
