Michuki takes over Finance docket

NAIROBI, July 11 – President Mwai Kibaki has appointed John Michuki to the Finance Ministry in an acting capacity. In a statement from State House, the President also appointed Public Works Minister Chris Obure to double up as Roads Minister.

Michuki will also continue to head the Environment docket to which he was appointed in January this year.

The appointment to the Treasury follows last Tuesday’s resignation of Finance Minister Amos Kimunya who was hounded out of office after the controversial sale of the Grand Regency Hotel.

The roads ministry fell vacant following the death of Kipkalya Kones who perished in a plane crash on June 11.
