(Laura Walubengo) The Commercial Bank of Africa are the new title sponsors for this year’s Concours d’Elegance, forking out an impressive Sh10 million for the September event.
The annual affair that plays like a fashion show for cars is all set for the Nairobi Racecourse on September 30, and is expected to attract a crowd of more than 10,000 car lovers.
“We at CBA are proud to be affiliated with such a timeless and regal event. Over the years the Concours d’ Élegance has captured attention from all corners of the earth and it provides our nation with a platform to showcase Kenya in the global context not only as a “beach and bush” holiday destination, but one that organizes such sophisticated events of international standing,” said Managing Director Isaac Awuondo.
“Since our recent re-launch of the CBA brand… what better way to bring our brand promise to life than by sponsoring an event such as the Africa Concours d’Elegance,” he added.
A team of Australian enthusiasts are taking part in this year’s gathering, shipping their cars to Cape Town and then driving them up to Nairobi from there. The Uganda Bikers Association has also entered seven motorcycles, which they will ride from Kampala to Nairobi.
The event, organized by the Alfa Romeo Owners Club, has over the years attracted entries from Australia, England, Germany, Malawi, Mauritius, and Tanzania among others.
“Just as CBA achieves high standards of service we aim for a high level of judging for the competing classic and vintage cars and motorcycles in the Concours,” said Bob Dewar, the Chairman of the Alfa Romeo Owners Club.
