Who are we kidding, we’d pick a chocolate éclair over steamed broccoli any day if our waistlines and dietary needs would allow but that’s just not how life works. When life gives us lemons, we squeeze it into a green tea and down that thing quick fast because – antioxidants, bioactive compounds, great skin etc.
So when we came across this miracle berry that could potentially change our experience with vegetables and sour foods forever, it definitely caught our attention.
The miracle berry (scientifically known as Synsepalum dulcificum) is a small red fruit containing a glycoprotein that coats the taste buds causing your receptors to interpret certain flavors (mostly sour ones) far sweeter.
The fruit is native to West Africa and are perfectly safe to eat. We can only imagine how they’d come in handy when trying to get kids to eat their veggies!
Whereas it takes roughly 45 seconds for the berry to fully coat your taste buds, the effect lasts anywhere between 15 minutes and 2 hours.
